LAUTECH debunks viral matriculation notice, says September 23 date false
The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has dismissed as false a viral social media message claiming that newly admitted 100 Level and Direct Entry (D.E.) students for the 2025/2026 academic session are required to compulsorily sign the matriculation list on September 23, 2026.
The University Management, in a public notice signed by the Registrar, Mrs Olayinka Balogun, warned students and the general public against relying on the misleading information, stressing that the purported date did not emanate from the University or any authorised officer.
The Management made it clear that the University is currently on break and no matriculation list signing exercise is ongoing in any Faculty Office.
It stated that the exercise has not commenced, adding that the actual commencement date would be officially communicated after the University resumes.
However, an original memo dated August 24, 2026 and signed by the Registrar, which was attached to the matriculation list for newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session and circulated to the University's Faculty Officers, confirms that the list had been dispatched to the Faculties for students' signatures.
The document, titled 'Dispatch of Matriculation List for 2025/2026 Newly Admitted Students', directed the Faculty Officers to ensure that “each of the students admitted in the above-referred session signs against his/her name.”
The memo further directed that, upon completion of the signing, three copies of the duly signed list should be submitted to the Registrar's office “on or before Wednesday, 30th September, 2026.”
It described the matriculation list as “an important statutory document of the University” and urged the Faculty Officers to ensure strict compliance with the directive and the stipulated deadline.
According to the latest public notice, however, the signing exercise itself has not commenced, as the University is currently on break. The Management clarified that while September 30, 2026 remains the deadline contained in the official University circular, the September 23 date circulating on social media is false.
The University consequently directed students to disregard the viral update, describing it as unauthorised and misleading.
The Management assured students that they would be duly informed through official University communication channels when the exercise begins after resumption.
The University urged all students, particularly newly admitted 100 Level and D.E. students, to rely strictly on official University communication channels for accurate information and updates.
