LAUTECH Student, Amoo Taiwo, Emerges First Runner-Up at Patrick Andrew Engineering Innovation Challenge 4.0; Elected National President of NIMechE Students’ Forum
Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has once again demonstrated its leadership in innovation and research as one of its students, Amoo Taiwo, emerged First Runner-Up in the Patrick Andrew Engineering Innovation Challenge 4.0. The competition was held during the National Conference of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) in Lagos, from October 16 to 18, 2025.
Amoo Taiwo, a 500-level Mechanical Engineering student, presented an innovative project titled “AutoMed”, which impressed both the judges and participants. AutoMed is a smart drug-dispensation companion designed to remind individuals—particularly the elderly and people with disabilities—of the correct time to take their medication. The innovation helps prevent medication errors such as forgetfulness, overdosing, and underdosing.
The AutoMed project was developed collaboratively by Amoo Taiwo, Bello Abdullahi, Emmanuel Lafenwa, and Azeez Fatiha, under the mentorship of Professor Tesleem Asafa, Director of the Centre for Emerging Skills and Technologies (CEST) at LAUTECH. The team received monetary and non-monetary awards, alongside certificates of excellence and recognition.
In addition to his success at the competition, Amoo Taiwo was elected as the National President of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers – National Students’ Forum (NIMechE-NSF). He becomes the second LAUTECH student to hold this prestigious position at the national level.
This outstanding achievement reaffirms LAUTECH’s commitment to nurturing innovation, excellence, and leadership among its students, while contributing to technological advancement in Nigeria and beyond.
