World's Top 2% Scientists in 2024
The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Nigeria has increased its profile in the rank of top 2% scientists in the world as recently published by Elsevier B.V Netherlands and Stanford University, USA in September, 2024.
The prestigious ranking of scientists is based on a number of metrics focusing on published scholarly materials that are indexed in SCOPUS and it is in the 6th year of operation.
In the earlier versions, three LAUTECH lecturers, namely; Late Prof. Abass Abiola Olajire, Prof. Olugbenga Solomon Bello, and Prof. Agbaje Lateef featured among the top 2% scientists in the world from 2020 to 2023.
That the trio have also made the list for the 5th consecutive time, is worthy of commendation.
In the latest version released on 16 September, 2024, the number of LAUTECH scholars on the list increased to five, with two additional entries. Similarly, the number of Nigerian scholars among top 2% scientists in the world increased from 186 in 2023 to 233 in the latest edition of 2024.
These attest to the increasing global visibility of Nigerian scholars in their global contributions to knowledge.
The global top 2% scholars from LAUTECH in 2024 are Late Prof. Abass Abiola Olajire of the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry (ranked 144th among 115,291 scholars in Environmental Sciences), Prof. Olugbenga Solomon Bello of the Departmental of Pure and Applied Chemistry (ranked 356th among 115,291 scholars in Environmental Sciences), Prof. Agbaje Lateef of the Department of Pure and Applied Biology (ranked 299th among 62,673 scholars in Biotechnology),
Dr. Samson Olaniyi of the Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics (ranked 814th among 68,528 scholars in General Mathematics), and Dr. Roland E. Akhigbe of the Department of Physiology (ranked 1,120th among 96,407 scholars in Medicine).
Vice-Chancellor of LAUTECH, professor Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu, acknowledged that efforts of these scholars contribute to the favourable ranking of LAUTECH as an excellent citadel of learning in Nigeria and beyond.
He said outstanding scholars will enjoy the support of his administration.
