The 2026 Annual Library Staff Health and Wellness Programme (2nd Edition)

The 2026 Annual Library Staff Health and Wellness Programme (2nd Edition), organised by the Olusegun Oke Library, was successfully held, bringing together members of staff for an impactful and enlightening session on workplace health and wellbeing.

The annual wellness lecture, initiated by Professor Adefunke S. Ebijuwa in memory of the late Mrs Mary Olateju Agboola, was conceived as a practical and sustainable initiative to promote health consciousness, preventive healthcare practices, and staff wellbeing within the University work environment.

In her welcome address, Professor Ebijuwa noted that library and academic work environments present several occupational health challenges associated with prolonged sitting, repetitive tasks, improper posture, extensive computer use, and visual strain.
She emphasised that occupational health and ergonomic studies have consistently identified neck and back pain, eye strain, fatigue, and other musculoskeletal disorders as common health concerns among office and library workers. She therefore stressed the importance of preventive health education and ergonomic awareness in promoting staff wellbeing and productivity.

The theme of this year’s programme, “Neck and Back Pain and Eye Strain: Protecting Yourself at Work,” provided participants with valuable practical insights on maintaining proper posture, reducing workplace strain, adopting healthier work habits, and improving overall wellbeing.

The programme featured presentations by the Deputy CMAC, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Dr Mrs Susan Adepoju; and the Physiotherapist, Mr A. A. Adebisi, who delivered practical and informative sessions on workplace ergonomics, posture management, eye care, and preventive healthcare practices.

Professor Ebijuwa also encouraged staff members not to limit attention to their health to annual wellness programmes alone but to cultivate the habit of regular medical check-ups, healthy work habits, proper rest, exercise, and timely medical consultation. She reiterated that good health remains indispensable to personal wellbeing, family life, and effective service delivery.

The University Librarian appreciated the University Medical Director, Dr Olufemi Ajala for his commitment and support in sustaining the initiative as part of the Library’s staff welfare vision.

Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative and the practical knowledge shared during the programme. The event concluded with renewed commitment towards promoting a healthier, safer, and more productive work environment for staff.
