LAUTECH Secures First Runner-Up Position at African Energy Innovation Challenge, Wins ₦1.8 Million Cash Prize
A team from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has emerged as the First Runner-Up at the prestigious African Energy Innovation Challenge 2025 held on November 20, 2025. Competing against more than 400 teams from 40 countries, the team distinguished itself with an outstanding performance and also gained the highest number of votes during the public voting phase, underscoring the relevance and impact of their work.
The team presented GRID-GUARD, an intelligent energy infrastructure monitoring system designed to curb vandalism, strengthen transformer surveillance, prevent breakdowns, and enhance energy reliability. The team is made up of Mubarak Erinfolami and Ajibade Ifeoluwa (Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 400 Level) and Faizat Olubori (Medicine and Surgery, 300 Level). They were mentored by Prof. Tesleem Asafa, Director of the Center for Emerging Skills and Technologies (CEST).
This outstanding achievement highlights the team’s innovation, dedication, and technical competence, while further reinforcing LAUTECH’s growing reputation for excellence in research, technology-driven solutions, and meaningful contributions to societal development.
