LAUTECH student wins grant to present research in Qatar
A 400 Level Medical Student in the Department of Medicine at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Muili Abdulbasit Opeyemi,
has been awarded a highly competitive Low and middle-income country travel grant to present his research at the Medical Education and Technology Conference (METC) organized by Weill Cornell Medicine, held in Doha, Qatar.
The LMICA grant was awarded following a rigorous abstract review and competitive application process, with only two recipients selected globally, underscoring the academic merit and international relevance of the research.
At the conference, Abdulbasit presented a research paper titled “Global Trends and Outcomes of Virtual Reality and Physical Simulation in Neurosurgical Education: A Systematic Review.”
The study reviews global evidence on the use of virtual reality and simulation-based training in neurosurgical education, highlighting their role in improving surgical skills acquisition and competency.
As the Lead Researcher, Abdulbasit led a research team that qualitatively synthesized data from studies across the globe to evaluate how emerging technologies are transforming neurosurgical training and medical education at large.
He described the grant as a significant recognition of academic dedication and an important platform for amplifying the contributions of young African researchers in global medical education discourse.
This achievement reflects the growing research capacity within LAUTECH, and serves as an inspiration to other students to pursue excellence, innovation, and impactful scientific research.
