LAUTECH STAGES LANDMARK WORLD BOOK DAY 2026 CELEBRATION

 

Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, reinforced its commitment to literacy advocacy and academic excellence with the successful hosting of the 2026 World Book Day celebration, organised by the Olusegun Oke Library at The Hall, LAUTECH.

The impactful programme was convened and hosted by the University Librarian, Prof. Adefunke Sarah Ebijuwa, whose leadership continues to strengthen the Library’s role as a centre for scholarship, innovation, and community engagement.

The Vice-Chancellor and Chief Host, Prof. Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu, was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategy and Development), Prof. A. T. J. Ogunkunle. Other principal officers present included the Registrar, Mrs. Olanike Olayinka Balogun; the representative of the Bursar; and the Acting Director of Audit. The keynote lecture was delivered by  the Guest Lecturer, Prof. O. O. Ogunleye.

The programme attracted over 250 secondary school students from 14 schools, alongside undergraduate students, staff, education stakeholders, and invited guests.

Activities featured an exhibition of library resources and historic materials, drama and quiz competitions, read-aloud sessions, and a lecture on Reading for Pleasure in the Era of Digital Distraction. The Department of Theatre Arts also presented a stage performance highlighting the value of reading.

Delivering the Vice-Chancellor’s message, Prof. Ogunkunle described the initiative as a strategic step towards building a knowledge-driven society through stronger reading culture and improved access to information resources.

A major highlight was the investiture of twelve outstanding undergraduate students as members of the Library Squad, while a distinguished lecturer was honoured as a Knowledge Ambassador for effective utilisation of library resources in teaching and research.

In her remarks, Prof. Ebijuwa noted that the programme represents a significant effort to deepen literacy advocacy, expand outreach to schools, and inspire a new generation of readers and scholars.

Educational materials and selected books were presented to participating schools as part of the University’s outreach initiative.

The celebration concluded with networking sessions and commemorative group photographs.
