LAUTECH Secures First Runner-Up at the 2026 OORC Innovation Challenge win cash prize of ₦500,000
Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has once again demonstrated its commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship as Team Cyfe secured second place at the Oluseun Onigbide Resource Center IDEATION 2026 competition, held in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, from May 29 to 30, 2026.
The competition brought together 11 teams and individual innovators from across Ogbomoso to present practical solutions leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI), data, and next-generation technologies to address challenges in agriculture, education, healthcare, safety, and waste management. Team Cyfe, comprising Olaniyi Noah Olawumi (Mechanical Engineering), Faris Adedeji (Mechanical Engineering), and Rosemary Ojoawo (Electrical and Electronics Engineering), was mentored by Professor T. B. Asafa, Director of the Centre for Emerging Skill and Technology (CEST), LAUTECH.
The team’s innovation, Cyfe, is a smart gas monitoring and safety system designed to measure gas levels, detect leakages, and send real-time alerts to prevent gas-related accidents such as explosions and unexpected gas exhaustion. Their innovative solution earned them second place, along with a cash prize of ₦500,000, mentorship opportunities, and strategic support for further development.
As part of future development, Team Cyfe plans to integrate smart valve automation for automatic gas shutoff during leakage incidents, especially when users are not physically present.
The team’s achievement was also spotlighted by ExploreOgbomoso Media, further highlighting LAUTECH’s growing impact in innovation and technology.
